Signal phase plays a huge role in the quality of any audio that you handle. Despite that fact, it can manifest only very subtly and be hard to detect. If only I could explain away my Italophilia so simply as just to say it runs in my blood; but I’m Ukranian-Jewish and German. The truth is that I have absolutely no idea how or why I’m so damn interested in that specific place and that specific time. I’ve tried to come up with a lot of reasons over the years, which have included everything from the permissive, freewheeling sexual attitudes of Europe in the late 1960s and early ’70s to the bizarre musical genres that Italian film composers blended — like pop, bossa nova, free-improvisation, contemporary ensemble music, and even cheesy world music cliches — to create this one strangely magnificent strew. But really, it isn’t one thing — it’s everything!
One look at Stereofox and it’s a streaming dream. The front page immediately presents you a bunch of streaming options, making it easy for you to select your mood and have the site curate tracks for you to discover immediately. It’s the least amount of work for the most amount of gain.
Pretty much just a giant collection of songs and mixtapes to stream, based off a rating system similar to Rotten Tomatoes, Dat Piff is your go-to if you really don’t want all the fluff, and you just want to get to the part where you’re streaming thousands of new tracks.
“No Brainer”: So I’m not really hearing, like, “chords” here — just the bass line with the funky leading tone, the ping-riff thing, and the baby-robot notes. I mean, together they do sort of make “chords,” but it’s pretty subjective. I’ll tell you what, though: I’m not building chords off the fifth and sixth notes of the bass line. I just don’t hear vi and V chords like I’m hearing the other chords I can pick out of this loop soup.

Charles Burchell is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, educator, and diplomat from New Orleans, LA. He has studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, the New England Conservatory (B.M. ’12), and most recently completed the Masters of Arts in Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (Ed. M ’13). Burchell has recorded and produced albums with Wes “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Delfayo Marsalis, Ran Blake, Ciel Rouge, his band The Love Experiment (featured in Touring on a Shoestring), and has performed and given master classes at various music festivals around the world. Burchell also works as a cultural diplomat with the Next Level Program and is currently a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall’s Digital Music Production Workshop and Musical Connections Program in which he works with court involved youth and students from various boroughs throughout New York City. Burchell continues to perform regularly around the U.S. and internationally as a DJ, drummer, and bandleader.

Jeremy is a Montreal-based musician, sound artist and improviser who loves giving advice to emerging artists on how to make their tours more effective. He writes, records and performs electroacoustic “concrète” music for tape, oscillators and amplified objects and surfaces, as well as solo guitar.
